about
"Over the Rainbow" (often referred to as "Somewhere Over the Rainbow") is a classic Academy Award-winning ballad song with music by Harold Arlen and lyrics by E.Y. Harburg. It was written for the movie "The Wizard of Oz" and was sung by Judy Garland in the movie. It was later popularized as a ukulele hit by Israel Kamakawiwoʻole, and now every ukulele player is asked to play this at one time or another!
lyrics
Somewhere over the rainbow
Way up high,
There's a land that I heard of
Once in a lullaby.
Somewhere over the rainbow
Skies are blue,
And all the dreams that you dare to dream
Really do come true.
Someday I'll wish upon a star
And wake up where the clouds are far
Behind me.
Where troubles melt like lemon drops
Away above the chimney tops
That's where you'll find me.
Somewhere over the rainbow
Bluebirds fly.
Birds fly over the rainbow.
Why, oh why can't I?
If happy little bluebirds fly
Beyond the rainbow
Why, oh why can't I?
